Rear main is shot. Anyone got a 95-96 5.2 or 5.9 they want to sell me?
I know those years really narrow the search but I want to do as painless a swap as possible. CO smog dictates the engine can’t be older than the truck, and OBD dictates it can’t be a ‘97. FML.

why not just do the rear main?

Because I want as little downtime as possible. If I have to do something invasive like a rear main, I’m gonna rebuild the whole damn thing. If I’m gonna rebuild the whole damn thing, I may as well rebuild a replacement motor so the truck isn’t down during the process.
Also I kinda want a 5.9.

Look, just because Obama makes Fast & Furious real doesn’t mean you have to destroy your car racing.

Here’s a 5.2 for you:

Unfortunately, as reliable as that 5.2 is, I can’t tow my camper with Microsoft® Windows© XP

Move to a county without smog.
Next problem!

5.2 and 5.9 rear mains can easily be done with the engine in, its a 2 part seal. just be sure to seal the pan, that took a few times.

I know, there’s just many things that I’d do if I have to do the seal. I’d rather just build a fresh engine and swap in, this one has been, less than meticulously maintained .

But you can use MS-Paint and draw a picture of you towing your camper!

Awww. I’ll trade you my 3.9 for your 5.2!
(Yes, I’m aware that’s a downgrade even without it pissing oil all over.)

I did a RMS on a 4.0. Can’t imagine a 5.2 is too much worse if it’s a 2 piece.
